Protecting parks, trees, and natural spaces as Coquitlam grows
Coquitlam’s parks, trees, streams, and natural areas are a major part of what makes our city home. As Coquitlam grows, we need to protect the green spaces and neighbourhood features that residents value.
I believe environmental decisions should be guided by one simple question:
Will this make Coquitlam healthier, greener, and more liveable for residents?
That means protecting mature trees, improving parks, responding to climate impacts, and making sure growth does not come at the expense of the natural spaces that make Coquitlam special.
My Priorities:
Protect mature trees
Mature trees provide shade, cooling, beauty, wildlife habitat, and neighbourhood character. Coquitlam should strengthen protections for healthy trees wherever possible.
Improve parks and public spaces
As more people move to Coquitlam, parks and recreation spaces need to keep pace. Growth should help deliver the green and public spaces residents need.
Protect streams and natural areas
Coquitlam’s natural areas are part of our city’s identity and should be protected through strong planning, enforcement, and environmental stewardship.
Take practical climate action
Climate action should make daily life better by reducing heat, improving air quality, supporting energy efficiency, and helping neighbourhoods become more resilient.
